Kali and Derrick had the most perfect engagement session. I was a bit worried about how busy McConnell's Mills was on Labor Day, but as the evening rolled in, people started leaving and the sunset became absolutely perfect!
The happy couple were concerned they might feel awkward in front of the camera, but they were anything but. One of the best parts of an engagement session is having the chance to connect before the wedding day, which helps everyone feel more comfortable and relaxed when the big day arrives.
Honestly, I think the couples who laugh the most and lean into the moment often end up with the sweetest, most genuine expressions—and that was certainly the case here. Once I showed them some of their photos, they were amazed by how beautifully natural they looked!
Derrick brought his blue Jeep to the session, and I asked if we could create a few dramatic portraits in front of it using off-camera flash. That gave us a beautiful mix of locations, natural light, off-camera flash, and plenty of laughter along the way!
I can't wait for their wedding, it's going to be so much fun!
Congratulations you two!
Elaina
